As part of the Jaap Oosterhoff Visiting Professor Programme at the TU Delft Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, architect and designer Tosin Oshinowo visited Delft for workshops and a public BK Talks lecture at 20.04.2026.
Based in Lagos, Oshinowo is internationally recognised for combining contemporary architecture with local knowledge, social responsibility and climate-sensitive design. In her lecture “Architecture and Technology that Reconnect”, she reflected on how architecture can move beyond technical optimisation towards more adaptive, inclusive and resource-aware approaches.
The session was moderated by Job Schön and included an open discussion with students from the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment (BK), creating an engaging exchange on architecture, technology and social responsibility.
A key message was that constraints can become drivers for innovation. Using examples from rapidly growing urban environments such as Lagos, she demonstrated how scarcity, informality and adaptability can generate new architectural intelligence.
For the facade and building technology community, her contribution offered an important perspective: future building technologies must not only improve performance, but also create social and ecological value.
