OpenFace – Façade Education Without Borders
Over the past three years, Alessandra Luna Navarro, Ulrich Knaack and Marcel Bilow have developed, together with their European partners (TU Delft, TU Darmstadt, Eurac), an open educational program on Façade Design and Engineering, consisting of a series of seven MOOCs dedicated to façade education and open educational material. The courses range from façade fundamentals and building physics to stick systems, circularity, ventilated façades and advanced façade technologies.
In this GLASSTech lecture, Alessandra and Marcel, leaders of the Erasmus+ supported OpenFace project, will share the story behind the program, lessons learned from developing online façade education, and what it actually means to participate in a Massive Open Online Course.
With the first MOOC, “Façade design and engineering: complexity made simple”, recently reaching 10,000 learners, OpenFace has grown into an international learning platform. And since this summer, the complete seven-course program can be followed as a MicroMaster, offering the possibility to earn 10 EC after successfully completing the final examination.
