Following the technology of integrating capillary pipes in facade-surfaces – used in the ETA Factory at TU Darmstadt – this PhD targets the potentials of energy harvesting in solid / opake facades. And it is not only about harvesting for direct sun but also using spare energy from inside, store it and eventually even distribute it to a clear night sky, if too much. By this the entire house works like a heating – storing – cooling system.

Carina documented in her PhD the ETA Factory solution and investigated additional potentials by adapting various parameters and components – to not only empower new buildings, but also to get this technology applicable for refurbishment of industrial buildings.

She successfully defended her thesis at TU Darmstadt in November 2023.
