///Journal Watch: Journal of Facade Design and Engineering

The Journal of Facade Design and Engineering is an open-access, peer-reviewed platform hosted by the TU Delft – Architectural Facades and Products Research Group. It connects academic research with real-world facade practice, positioning the building envelope as a field where design, engineering and production intersect.

The latest issue brings together three contributions that approach the facade from distinct but closely related perspectives.

One paper investigates additive manufacturing and facade integration, focusing on how digitally fabricated components can transition from experimental setups into real facade systems—addressing interfaces, tolerances and process logic rather than form alone.

A second article explores combined visual and structural analysis methods, proposing ways to evaluate architectural quality and structural performance simultaneously within the design process.

The third contribution examines life-cycle and sustainability assessment of modular curtain wall systems, using data-driven frameworks to compare environmental performance and to highlight the role of modularity, reuse and disassembly.

Together, Issue 12 / No. 1 (2024) frames facade design as a negotiated space between digital tools, engineering reasoning and long-term environmental responsibility—clearly grounded in current research and practice.
