Precast Precision with Hölscher Fassadenbau

precast GFRP panels in the air

Every now and then we visit a project that really stays with us. During our recent trip to Munich to film new content for our OpenFace façade-engineering MOOCs, Uli and I were invited by Hölscher Fassadenbau to take a closer look at one of their high-rise projects — and it turned out to be a fascinating day on site.

The building is clad with precast concrete / GRC façade panels, and Hölscher developed a clever hoisting boom that lifts the elements from a flat, horizontal position, rotates them vertically, and then guides them alongside the tower. Meanwhile, the façade assembly crew travels up the building on an Alimak façade lift, meeting the elements at height and placing them on the structure with millimeter precision.

Watching this choreography — heavy concrete panels, smart tools, and a highly trained team — was truly impressive. It’s the kind of project that reminds us why we love what we do.

We’ll share more technical insights and videos from this visit soon in our upcoming OpenFace façade engineering courses Facade Forward Stay tuned! More info about the courses here
