Fraunhofer Institute for Silica Research ISC

Being on the road together always offers the opportunity to take a break from the highway and discover new buildings we wouldn’t usually come across so easily. On our way down south to AGC Interpane, Uli and Marcel spotted the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research in Würzburg, Germany. It looked interesting on the phone, and after taking a closer look at the project, we realized it was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects with façade engineering by Werner Sobek. So off we went!

The building, set along a gently curving road, creates a striking impression with its light green glass panels that transition into softly shaped glass elements forming elegant overhangs.
