“Building and Façade design research for the AEC industry” seminar took place at the UC Lo Contador and San Joaquín campuses on September 22 and 23, 2025, respectively.
The main challenge when working on sustainability projects is to generate a dialogue between efficiency issues and architectural issues, often posing a false dichotomy between the two requirements.
The international seminar was part of a joint project with the Technical University of Darmstadt, taking place between September 22 and October 3. It will feature a series of activities, including the seminar “Building and Façade Design Research for the AEC Industry”.
The seminar – open to the general public at the Lo Contador and San Joaquín campuses – addressed two central themes: one focused on research into sustainable design of facades and structures, and the other on AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction—interdisciplinary work in the industry). These two themes converged in the introduction of AI tools for AEC in a student workshop, in this case applied to analyzing the different optimization options that can be achieved with AI in terms of materials, formal and structural definitions.
